One of the first major things the 2012-2013 SGA Body accomplished together was creating a mission statement that embodies what this organization stands for. The first ever mission statement for Birmingham-Southern's Student Government Association is as follows:

The Student Government Association (SGA) equally represents the student voice by participating effectively in institutuional governance with the administration and board of trustees. The SGA seeks to support student learning and the development of community among students, faculty, staff, and administration. SGA strives to demonstrate the values and purpose of Birmingham-Southern College.
